Under the bed there is a vast amount of space that is often unused. There are many products that are used in order help maximize space that can be purchased in most stores. I have found that one item that works very well is one of the long thin plastic box that is found in most stores. These are great to make space under the bed and to store items that are not too tall. Using them is great in order to store items that are not often used. Items like winter and summer clothes. Many people have limited closet space and these storage units are great in order to allow for some of that closet space to open up. These boxes allow for easy storage of these items and often have wheel on one side in order to allow for easy maneuvering around the house. They work great in order to store holiday decorations and other seasonal items.
The clear plastics work great also for identifying items that have been stored for a long time from the outside without having to open every storage box. This works great for people who forget where they placed certain items and only a quick look will take care of that. Other items that work well are long slim cardboard boxes. These are less expensive than the plastic ones but less resilient. Often these can be free if you receive a package or go to your local grocer. The other down side of these items are that they are not clear and therefore to see what items are inside one would have to open the box. Also these boxes do not have very good handles and are sometimes difficult to carry and store. Another problem is that the box may break in the bottom when too much weight is placed inside it. These boxes also are harder to slide in carpeting but in hard wood floors they work great.
These boxes also can rip and tear which is something that will not likely happen with hard plastic objects. There are products that are specifically made for storing items, like shoes, under beds. These are great for people who have multiple pairs of shoes that need to be stored. But for people who only have a few these items would be no help. Also some of these items are made of only cloth with no hard support which made the product flimsy and hard to use. When purchasing these products one should ensure that there is plenty of support to make the product sturdy and usable. For people who have no other option large bags can be used in order to store items under the bed. These can work very well but are prone to ripping and tearing more than the cardboard boxes. Bags can also become snagged in any sharp corners or items under the bed. The Large garbage bags can be utilized and are relatively cheap when compared to the other storage media like the plastic containers.
